• Cost: Always an important aspect, a customer's budget dictates every aspect of the design & installation
• Color Schemes: Themes throughout a landscape are critically augmented by proper color coordination.
• Scale: Refers to how you manage relative sizes of plants and trees to complement one another.
• Form: Refers to how plants and trees are shaped and how they "stand" (firm, upright, droopy, lateral, vertical etc.).
• Lines: Landscapes create visual "lines" and things like borders influence eye movement, drawing your attention to or from something.
• Proportion: similar to scale, proportion considers the whole picture, your use of scale in a relative sense might work but in proportion to the entire picture (house, surrounding landscapes etc) should be appropriate.
• Texture: Always consider combinations of hardscape elements and plants with varied textures (soft, shiny, hearty, grassy, dry, etc)
• Balance: Keeping a landscape balanced is important, too much emphasis on one area can detract from others.
